Afro-pop and old-school music enthusiasts are in for a night of nostalgia and soulful melodies as Uganda’s iconic Afrigo Band headlines Guvnor’s “Friday Night Live” on Friday, June 27.
The much-anticipated performance is part of the club’s flagship live music series held every last Friday of the month, and this edition promises an unforgettable celebration of Uganda’s rich musical heritage. Joining the legendary band is renowned Afro-pop singer Sophie Nantongo, known for her emotive lyrics and captivating stage presence.
Nantongo is expected to thrill revelers with her soulful catalogue, including fan favourites like Gunuma, Nkwagala Nnyo, Love Super, and Love Science, adding a fresh dynamic to Afrigo Band’s timeless sound.
This month’s event is also marked by a new partnership, with I&M Bank Uganda coming on board as the official sponsor. According to Annette Nakiyaga, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at I&M Bank Uganda, the sponsorship reflects the bank’s commitment to creating engaging and refreshing lifestyle experiences for its clients.
“Sponsoring theme nights like ‘Friday Night Live’ aligns with our vision to connect with clients beyond the banking hall. We believe in promoting work-life balance by supporting events that help people relax and recharge,” Nakiyaga said.
Afrigo Band, which is set to mark its 50th anniversary this August, remains one of Uganda’s most celebrated musical groups. Their performances continue to draw fans across generations—from Gen X audiences who grew up with their music to millennials discovering the band’s enduring appeal.
Guvnor, Uganda’s premier nightclub, has long hosted Afrigo Band’s memorable live sets, and this edition promises no less—blending classic rhythms, smooth vocals, and unmatched stage energy for an electric night of music and celebration.
