The District Health Officer of Alebtong Dr. Tony Odung, has been remanded to prison over allegations of causing financial loss to the Government amounting to shs165 million.
Dr. Odung was on Tuesday arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in conjunction with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Prosecution alleges that during the 2019/2020 financial year, Dr. Odung, together with the former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Ben Otim Ogwette, and Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Stephen Andeoye, who are currently at large, irregularly authorized payment of shs165.5 to Otada Construction Ltd.
The funds were meant for the upgrade of Angweta Health Centre II and Angwei Health Centre II to Health Centre IIIs.
However, court heard that the payment was made without securing an advance payment guarantee, contrary to public procurement and financial management regulations.
Investigators further state that Otada Construction Ltd later abandoned the project before completing the works, resulting in a financial loss to government.
Dr. Odung was remanded until March 5, 2026. The court also issued criminal summons directing the former CAO and CFO to appear on the same date for plea taking.
