The Ministry of Internal Affairs has temporarily suspended passport issuance services at its Kyambogo and Jinja centres following technical disruptions affecting internet connectivity.
Ministry spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi said the Kyambogo Passport Issuance Centre, formerly operated by Face Technologies, had become non-operational following a fibre-optic cable cut that disrupted passport processing and issuance.
The Jinja Regional Passport Office has also experienced a service disruption and is currently unable to personalise or issue passports.
In a statement issued on October 22, 2026, Mundeyi said technical teams were working with service providers to restore the affected services as soon as possible.
“Technical teams, working together with our service providers, are making every effort to restore services as soon as possible,” Mundeyi said.
The ministry apologised to members of the public affected by the disruption and appealed for patience as efforts to resolve the technical problems continue.
Despite the disruptions in Kyambogo and Jinja, passport services remain operational at the ministry’s other centres, including its headquarters in Kampala and regional offices in Mbale, Gulu, Mbarara and Arua.
Applicants who require passport services may therefore consider visiting these operational centres, although they are advised to confirm service availability before travelling.
The disruptions highlight the dependence of passport processing on reliable digital connectivity, particularly for functions such as application processing, passport personalisation and issuance.
The ministry said services at the affected centres would resume once the technical problems had been resolved.
It did not specify when normal operations would resume.
Members of the public with appointments or pending passport applications at Kyambogo and Jinja are advised to follow official Ministry of Internal Affairs communication channels for updates on the restoration of services.
