Police have arrested two men in connection with the killing of 17-year-old Faith Namata, a S.3 student of Kitebi Senior Secondary School.
The suspects identified as Jeremiah Kakande, believed to have been the deceased’s boyfriend, and Muhammad Kato, a bodaboda rider are being held at Katwe Police Station.
According to police, Namata’s body was discovered on October 9 in a swamp at Kikumbi Zone, Makindye Ssabagabo, located between two residential houses. The discovery sparked fear among residents.
Luke Owoyesigire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police, said officers from Katwe Police Station responded immediately to the scene.
Detectives found the student’s body with multiple scratches. Preliminary findings indicate she may have been sexually abused before being strangled.
Following investigations, police arrested two suspects on Sunday.
Owoyesigire said the two were picked up to help with the investigation.
“We are trying to piece up information to know what exactly happened,” he said, adding that detectives are building a case against the suspects.
Namata, who had been reported missing by her mother, Joy Nabawanuka, and her teachers, was found nearly three days later, dumped by the roadside by local residents.
