The British Chamber of Commerce Uganda (BCCU) has marked its first anniversary, celebrating a year of rapid growth, strategic partnerships, and a shared vision of unlocking Uganda’s economic potential through enhanced UK-Uganda trade and investment.
Founded in 2024, the BCCU has established itself as a dynamic hub for business collaboration, offering a trusted platform for fostering innovation, networking, and dialogue between the private sector and policymakers.
Driven by Ugandan leadership and backed by global connections, the Chamber continues to focus on promoting inclusive and sustainable development across sectors.
Building a Platform for Growth
Over the past year, the BCCU has hosted a series of high-impact events designed to support businesses and foster bilateral engagement. These include expert-led discussions on tax in partnership with EY, sessions on imports and exports to the UK, and immigration briefings with UK Visas and Immigration officials. These events have positioned the Chamber as a vital bridge between business and government.
Speaking at the anniversary celebration, British High Commissioner to Uganda Lisa Chesney, who also serves as Honorary President of the Chamber, emphasized the UK’s commitment to Uganda’s economic development.
“We are part of a global movement that means business. Growth requires partnership – between governments and businesses, between nations and networks,” she stated.
“The UK is committed to economic renewal, technological innovation, and global collaboration. Our support for the Chamber is a reflection of our belief in mutual prosperity.”
Sanja Rughani, Chair of the BCCU Board, praised members for contributing to job creation and inclusive development.
“Our members are helping build the jobs of the future for Uganda’s young population. This anniversary is not just a celebration of what we’ve achieved—it’s a call to action for more businesses to join us and shape the next chapter of Uganda’s economic story,” she said.
With Uganda’s large youth demographic and entrepreneurial energy, the Chamber believes the country is well-positioned for transformative growth. The BCCU plans to continue expanding its membership base, fostering new business opportunities, and deepening UK-Uganda commercial ties.
As the Chamber enters its second year, it remains committed to being a key enabler of economic collaboration and sustainable development in Uganda.
