In a major vote of confidence in Uganda’s economy, Chinese firm CHINT Uganda officially opened its new, multi-million-shilling electrical showroom in Kampala on Saturday.
The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, marking a milestone in private sector-led investment.
The modern showroom, located along Jinja Road, is designed as a comprehensive energy and lifestyle hub—offering walk-in and project customers a wide range of electrical goods, including lighting, furniture, AC and DC power products, sockets, wires, generators, smart hybrid inverters, and EV chargers.
Marketing Manager Hurry Mugisha highlighted the showroom’s versatility: “We provide comprehensive solutions from the smallest items, like screws, to large transformers and transmission cables.”
Prime Minister Nabbanja commended CHINT’s leadership for its 20-year journey in Uganda, describing the facility as a tangible symbol of the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) vision for a resilient economy built on job-creating investments.
“This establishment is a milestone for private-sector investment in Uganda,” she remarked.
CHINT Uganda started in Uganda two decades ago as a small retail shop. It has since evolved into a regional electrical manufacturing powerhouse, establishing local production capabilities for wires, cables, and prepaid meters.
Its manufacturing footprint extends beyond Kampala: CHINT also operates Uganda’s first electric energy meter factory in Mbale. This 2,000 sqm facility produces up to 150,000 prepaid electricity meters annually under the “Made in Uganda” initiative.

State Minister for Investment and Privatization, Evelyn Anite recently emphasized the showroom’s role in import substitution, reducing Uganda’s reliance on foreign imports of electrical goods.
She noted that Uganda imports over shs10.7 billion worth of home appliances annually—an outflow curbed by local production.
Mugisha echoed this aspiration: “Our annual production capacity of about 300,000 pieces exceeds local demand; we aim to expand into East African markets to keep our factories running at full capacity.
Chint Uganda has also partnered with OPPEIN, the global leader in luxury interiors in form of kitchens, wardrobes and furniture .
