Eight staff members of the Parliament of Uganda, including Communications and Public Affairs Director Chris Ariko Obore, have been arrested by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) over alleged corruption-related offences.
The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation by the IGG into suspected corruption within Parliament. Authorities have not yet disclosed the specific charges or details surrounding the allegations.
Those arrested are Chris Ariko Obore, Director of Communications and Public Affairs; Daniel Adilo, Director of Human Resource; Leonard Okema, Executive Secretary in the Office of the Speaker; Rajab Kaaya Ssemalulu, Principal Research Officer; Emmanuel Okwi Emuron, Principal Protocol Officer; Methoda Murebe, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Parliamentary SACCO; Stella Itute, Personal Assistant; and Vincent Otebata, Capacity Development Officer.
The suspects are expected to appear in court later today.
The IGG has not yet issued a detailed statement outlining the nature of the alleged offences or the circumstances leading to the arrests.
