A city businessman, has been remanded to luzira prison for allegedly forging a letter purportedly signed by President Museveni, directing the Minister of Works and Transport to renew the management contract of Nation Oil Distributors Limited for the MV Kalangala ferry for another 15 years.
Identified as Nicholus Male, the suspect was on Wednesday arraigned before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with forgery and uttering false documents
The letter, dated August 15, 2025, was allegedly used by Male in an attempt to defraud the company and deceive government institutions.
The court heard that on September 18, 2025, Male, with intent to defraud or deceive, presented the forged letter to the Ministry of Works and Transport, the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and the offices of Nation Oil Distributors Limited in Ndeba, Kampala.
Prosecution further alleged that Male had earlier met with the Director of Nation Oil Distributors Limited, claiming to work with the Office of the Prime Minister and boasting of connections with senior government officials who could help secure the ferry’s contract renewal.
Male denied the charges and was remanded to Luzira Prison until November 17, 2025, as investigations continue.
