Uganda will play their remaining two 2025 African Nations Cup qualifiers games for pride after reaching the finals without kicking a ball and with two games to spare
The East African country which is top of Group K reached the finals to be played in Morocco next year without even playing after South Sudan beat Congo 3-2 in their second last game played in Juba on Thursday evening.
The win by South Sudan meant that the bottom placed team moved to three points, while second last Congo Brazaville remained at four points with each remaining with one game to play.
This meant that Uganda on 10 points, and South Africa on eight, both with two games left qualified for the 2025 Afcon finals.
Uganda will later today host South Africa in a game that is only a formality as no matter the result, both have already qualified.
This means that Uganda will play against South Africa to keep the East African country’s pride.
South Africa needed a last-minute goal to force a 2-2 draw against Uganda in the first encounter in Orlando Stadium in September this year.
The Cranes will therefore seek maximum points from today’s opponent in Namboole.
Uganda will also not be fighting for anything as the East African nation visits Congo Brazaville in the penultimate Afcon 2025 qualifying game later this month on November, 19.
Uganda will now be playing in Afcon for the eight time after playing in the 1962, 1968, 1972, 1974, 1978, 2017 and 2025 finals previously.
