Seeta High School has broken its silence following the drowning of a Senior Six student on Sunday, August 3, 2025 a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the school community to its core.
Mr. Davis Kafumbe, the school’s Principal said the incident unfolded shortly after students returned from a lively football match.
Fueled by post-match excitement, a group of students reportedly broke school regulations by running to the swimming pool and jumping in without authorization and in violation of school safety protocols.
Among them was one student who, tragically, did not know how to swim.
“The students accessed the swimming pool area outside the school’s swimming guidelines,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, the victim was among those who entered the pool without supervision or permission.”
Kafumbe stated that the incident went unnoticed in its early stages, as staff had not been informed of the students’ movement toward the pool. It was only during the routine roll call that a male student was discovered to be missing, sparking immediate concern.
The school’s security and administration promptly launched a search and alerted the police for support. A broader joint search effort was then conducted in the presence of the student’s parents.
Tragically, the student was later discovered to have drowned in the school’s swimming pool. Police officers recovered the body as devastated parents, teachers, and classmates looked on.
The school explained that the student jumped into the swimming pool unauthorized.
” A number of them(students), without authorization and outside the school’s swimming guidelines, ran towards and jumped into the school swimming pool. Sadly, the victim, who did not know how to swim, was among them,” Kafumbe said.
“This heartbreaking incident has left the entire Seeta High School community in deep sorrow,” the statement continued. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the parents, family, friends, and fellow students during this difficult time.”
The school offered its sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“We mourn this great loss and pray that his soul may rest in eternal peace. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the
parents, family, friends, and fellow students during this difficult time,” Davis Kafumbe wrote.
The tragedy has reignited national debate over student safety and supervision in boarding schools, with many calling for tighter controls over access to recreational facilities.
