DNA test results have revealed that only four out of nine children tested are biologically related to the late Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya, leaving five children including the last born not fathered by the deceased legislator.
According to Muhammad Luswa Luwemba, the late MP’s aide, the DNA results were conclusive and have stirred renewed controversy among those claiming ties to Ssegirinya’s estate.
“DNA confirmed that all the two children of Akandinda are not for the late Ssegirinya,” Luwemba said, referring to Immaculate Akandinda, one of the most visible alleged widows who even attempted to contest during the recent Kawempe by-election.
He further revealed that a woman identified as Nalongo Joy, who presented a baby during the burial of the late MP, was also found not to be the mother of Ssegirinya’s child, as DNA results excluded the child from being his.
The revelation is the latest twist in an ongoing family dispute over Ssegirinya’s estate, which has remained unsettled since his passing in January.
The MP’s death ignited a struggle for property and legitimacy among multiple women who claimed to be his widows and mothers of his children.
Luwemba further disclosed that the women whose children were not biologically linked to the late MP are considering contesting the DNA results.
“I didn’t know that even in DNA they make an appeal. Ssegirinya’s wives are planning to appeal, but we are open to that,” he noted, suggesting that they are willing to accommodate additional tests from laboratories of the women’s choosing.
He also stated that once all legal and procedural matters are finalized, those found not to have children with the late MP will be given sufficient time to vacate his properties.
“After all the necessary processes are done, those whose children aren’t for the late will be given ample time before they vacate from the late’s estates,” Luwemba said.
Since the MP’s death, tensions have simmered among his alleged widows and family members, each faction reportedly seeking control over different aspects of his estate.
These tensions played out publicly during the Kawempe by-election, where various widows were seen backing different candidates.
The findings from the DNA tests now mark a turning point in resolving the inheritance dispute and may offer a clearer path to the division of Ssegirinya’s assets though the expected appeals could delay closure.
