An eight-year-old boy has been killed in a fatal road traffic accident along the Gulu–Kampala Highway in Kiryandongo District.
The accident occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at around 10:00am at Kisona Village in the Albertine Region.
According to police, the child, identified as Jordan Opakorwoth, was knocked by a motor vehicle while attempting to cross the highway and died instantly at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said officers responded promptly and took charge of the situation.
“A motor vehicle knocked a pedestrian, Opakorwoth Jordan, a male juvenile aged eight years, who was attempting to cross the road. Unfortunately, the child died instantly,” Rusoke said.
He added that police conveyed the body to Kiryandongo General Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
“The body of the deceased was conveyed to Kiryandongo General Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem, and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the accident are ongoing,” Rusoke stated.
