Former Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has reportedly been arrested by security operatives from his residence in Wakaliga under circumstances that remain unclear.
According to initial reports shared by Lukwago on social media, his home was allegedly surrounded by two security vehicles, commonly referred to as “drone cars,” before operatives reportedly forced their way into the compound.
Lukwago is said to have been taken away in a white Toyota Hiace registration number UBL 124F to an undisclosed location.
His son, Fahad Lukwago, who witnessed the incident, described what he termed a tense and forceful operation, alleging that security personnel cut through the perimeter fence and entered the premises without providing an explanation.
“They cut the barbed wire, broke in, and jumped over the fence. We did not know what they wanted because they never explained anything or showed a warrant. They were asking, ‘Where is he?’ and forced their way into the house,” Fahad said.
He added that the situation quickly descended into confusion as family members were caught off guard by the sudden arrival of the operatives.
“There was a lot of fear and confusion. They went upstairs, found him there, and took him away. It was about 30 minutes after he had arrived home that the security personnel entered,” he added.
By the time of publication, security agencies had not issued an official statement regarding the reported arrest or disclosed Lukwago’s whereabouts.
More details will follow as the situation develops.
