Former Minister of Works and Transport, Monica Azuba Ntege, has died, according to an announcement made on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
The news of her passing was shared by former Entebbe Municipality aspirant Jovia Namara Tugume via her official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“Ms Monica Azuba Ntege, a former Entebbe Ladies Open winner, former AACT president and former Minister of Works has passed on. May her Soul Rest in Eternal Peace,” Tugume wrote.
At the time of publication, details surrounding the circumstances of her death had not yet been made public.
Background and Career
Born in 1954 in Uganda’s Busoga sub-region, Azuba Ntege built a distinguished career in engineering and public service spanning several decades.
She attended Gayaza High School for her secondary education before joining Makerere University in 1974. She graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
Azuba began her professional journey at Uganda Commercial Bank, where she served for years and continued through its transition into Standard Bank following the acquisition in 2002. She later rose to the position of Facilities Manager at Stanbic Bank Uganda Limited, where she was credited with strong leadership in infrastructure and operations management.
Her entry into public service became prominent in 2014 when she was appointed to the board of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).
In 2016, she was appointed Minister of Works and Transport, replacing John Byabagambi.
As minister for works and transport, Azuba oversaw the revival of the Uganda Airlines in 2019 until she was replaced in December 2019 by General Edward Katumba Wamala.
