The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has suspended a total of eight match officials for three months following a series of officiating errors in recent Uganda Premier League matches.
The decision, issued by the Referees Disciplinary Panel, comes amid growing concern over the quality and consistency of officiating in top-flight football.
The heaviest sanctions were handed to officials who handled the match between Buhimba United Saints FC and Police FC, where six individuals were found to have breached match officiating standards.
Those suspended include referee Musisi Henry, assistant referees Kinyera Fred and Mbabali Samuel, fourth official Semakula John, Match Commissioner Kugonza Seemu Christopher, and Referee Assessor Kimbugwe Hilary Godfrey.
In a separate ruling, assistant referee Ongiera Immaculate was also suspended for three months over a critical error during the SC Villa versus Express FC clash.
The panel found that she incorrectly ruled out a legitimate goal for offside — a decision later overturned by video evidence.
Another suspension was issued to referee Okudra Emmanuel following the Police FC versus SC Villa match. Okudra was faulted for disallowing a valid goal despite there being no offside infringement.
FUFA confirmed that all eight officials will be required to undergo refresher training courses during their suspension period to improve their decision-making and adherence to officiating standards.
The disciplinary action signals FUFA’s intent to restore confidence in match officiating, as pressure mounts from clubs and fans over controversial decisions that have influenced match outcomes.
