Lowenah Racheal Nankya, a student who was hit by a stray bullet on the mouth as enforcement officers cleared the old taxi park of street vendors has been given a job by Kampala Capital City Authority.
Nankya, a senior six student of Lugazi Mixed School was in 2020 hit by a rubber bullet when she was together with her mother caught up in the melee as KCCA forced vendors off the street
On Monday, KCCA announced that four years later, they have recruited Nankya as an intern.
“Lowenah reports at KCCA today as one of the graduate interns for this quarter. A student of human resources management, she’s been inducted into the directorate of administration and human resources. Here Lowena is expected to pick practical knowledge on and about her area of study, share with us her acquired knowledge to improve our systems and process and get a feel of a work place environment. The transition from a victim to a staff member of KCCA is testament to our unwavering commitment towards improving our relations with stakeholders,” KCCA spokesperson, Simon Kasyate said on Monday.
He noted that Nankya’s journey from a victim to a staff member of KCCA is testament to “our unwavering commitment towards improving our relations with stakeholders.”
Previously, KCCA was accused of abandoning Nankya without compensation even after the unfortunate incident.
It took the intervention of members of the public, especially on social media to ensure she got the attention of officials from KCCA.
