Guests and workers at Fairway Hotel were left stranded on Thursday afternoon after heavy rains triggered flooding at the hotel premises.
The downpour, which lasted for hours, caused water to accumulate in different sections of the hotel compound, disrupting movement and normal operations.
Videos and pictures shared by members of the public showed floodwaters covering parts of the parking area and walkways as people struggled to move through the flooded premises.
The heavy rains also affected several arcades, roads and business areas in downtown Kampala, causing temporary disruption to businesses and transport.
Buildings such as Qualicel Bus Terminal, Mutaasa Kafeero plaza, Ham Shopping were once again flooded, with many traders seen struggling to drain water from their shops and rescue merchandise from destruction.
The latest flooding revived memories of the devastating November floods last year that destroyed property worth billions of shillings and paralysed business in different parts of the city.
Following the disaster, some traders dragged landlords, including Hamis Kiggundu, to court demanding compensation for the losses incurred.

Yesterday’s flooding occurred just hours after Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja announced that traders whose property was destroyed during last year’s Kampala floods can now access compensation.
Some residents blamed the flooding on poor drainage systems in the city, saying the recurring floods continue to affect businesses and motorists whenever Kampala experiences heavy rainfall.
