Ghetto mothers in Gulu have received financial support worth shs8 million from Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) to boost their small-scale income-generating activities.
The beneficiaries, organised under a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisation (SACCO), bring together women engaged in poultry farming, food vending, and other informal businesses aimed at sustaining their households.
The support, facilitated through OWC under the leadership of Chief Coordinator General Caleb Akandwanaho, also known as Salim Saleh, is part of ongoing efforts to uplift vulnerable groups and promote grassroots economic empowerment.
Many of the women previously relied on roadside vending, but were affected by the enforcement of trade order regulations that removed informal traders from the streets. Since then, they have been working to rebuild their livelihoods through organised groups.
The beneficiaries welcomed the support, saying it will help them expand their activities and improve household incomes.
They also pledged to use the funds responsibly to strengthen their SACCO operations and support family welfare.
