National Unity Platform(NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine has in a veiled message, stung former Leader of Opposition, Mathias Mpuuga for “betraying the struggle.”

Speaking at the party headquarters on Wednesday, Kyagulanyi warned supporters to beware of politicians whom he said can change at any time.

“You should know politicians can change at any time.  I have one politician that on December, 26, 2020 when Frank(Ssenteza) was killed and Ashraf(Kasirye) was injured on the head. On December, 29, that politician was meeting Museveni and on 30th, we were with the same politician as we were being arrested in Kalangala,” Kyagulanyi said.

“I want to inform you politicians will always change but you shouldn’t change until the situation has changed.”

Whereas Kyagulanyi carefully made his speech without mentioning anyone, many have since concluded that it was Mpuuga.

Ghetto TV cameraman, Ashraf Kasirye was on December 27, 2020 injured during the 2021 election campaigns when he was hit on the head as police dispersed Kyagulanyi’s supporters in Kyabakuza, in the outskirts of Masaka City.

On the same day, Frank Ssenteza, a body guard to Kyagulanyi was killed by a military vehicle at Busega in Kampala as they rushed Kasirye to hospital.

Earlier this year, Mpuuga and  the National Unity Platform headed by Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine  cut ties.

The bad blood between Mpuuga and the NUP leadership started when Kyagulanyi suspended him as the party deputy president for Buganda over the shs500 million ‘service award’ that Mpuuga pocketed.

“You have thus failed to provide any satisfactory explanation for engaging in this action which goes against the vision, mission and objectives of the party,” Kyagulanyi said.

“It also goes against article 5.3(b) and f of the party constitution which obligates party members to conduct themselves in a manner that does not bring disrepute to the name of the party as well as practice accountable leadership.”

Mpuuga would later thank God for  “saving me from my frenemies.”

Since then, both have traded words against each other.

Mpuuga a few weeks ago unveiled  a new political formation named the Democratic Alliance ahead of 2026 elections and used this opportunity to sting NUP.

“I want to tell you that the leading opposition political party in Uganda is in deep slumber,”Mpuuga said.
