Mityana Woman MP Joyce Bagala has officially launched her re-election campaign, reaffirming her unwavering support for the National Unity Platform (NUP) and the broader cause for change, despite not receiving the party’s endorsement.
Speaking at her campaign launch in Kakindu, Bagala emphasized that her political conviction and allegiance to NUP remain firm.
“The difference with me is that I still support NUP and change, even though I did not get a card,” Bagala said. “I’m 100% sure I will win this election.”
She urged her supporters to remain calm and disciplined throughout the campaign period.
Bagala was joined by Anna Maria Nassali Rugendo, the NUP flag bearer for Mityana District chairperson, and Patrick Mugisha Nshimiye, an independent candidate for Mityana Municipality mayor, who also missed out on the NUP card.
Nassali expressed strong support for Bagala, praising her consistency and loyalty to the party.
“I move with Bagala the independent because I know she’s NUP. Not getting the card doesn’t mean she quit NUP,” Nassali said.
Bagala, who is seeking a second term in Parliament, faces stiff competition from NRM’s Judith Nabakooba, NUP’s Prossy Mukisa Nabbosa, and independent candidate Catherine Nalweyiso.
Her failure to secure the NUP flag surprised many supporters who viewed her as the strongest candidate for the Mityana Woman MP seat.
However, political observers suggest she may have lost favor within the party after aligning with Mathias Mpuuga, the former Leader of Opposition and NUP Buganda region president, who recently fell out with the party leadership over a controversial shs 500 million service award.
Despite the setback, Bagala’s campaign launch drew an enthusiastic crowd, signaling she remains a formidable contender in the Mityana Woman MP race.
