The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abbas Byakagaba, has praised the Directorate of Logistics and Engineering for their critical role in strengthening the operational capacity of the Uganda Police Force, during a working visit to their facilities at Jinja Road headquarters and Namanve.
During the tour, IGP Byakagaba inspected ongoing construction works, uniform production lines, and fleet management operations.
He commended the team, led by Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) James Apora, for their continued dedication to modernizing the force’s logistical systems and improving the welfare of police personnel.
One of the key highlights of the visit was the progress on the construction of 1,200 new police housing units, a project being implemented under the Directorate’s supervision.
The initiative aims to address the chronic housing challenges faced by officers across the country.
“Improving the living and working conditions of our personnel is not just a welfare issue, it is also a security priority,” said IGP Byakagaba.

“When officers are well accommodated and supported, they are more motivated and efficient in their duties,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of regular fleet maintenance, noting that police vehicles are essential assets in ensuring timely response and effective service delivery.
The police fleet must be kept in optimal condition. Every vehicle off the road is a gap in our service to the public,” Byakagaba emphasized. “Fleet maintenance is not a luxury, it is a duty.”
IGP Byakagaba encouraged the Logistics and Engineering team to continue embracing innovation and professionalism, particularly in areas such as in-house uniform production and infrastructure development, to reduce costs and enhance self-sufficiency within the Force.
