Uganda’s long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo has broken the half marathon world record after winning the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon on Sunday.
Kiplimo finished the race in 57 minutes and 20 seconds, beating the previous world record of 57:30 that was set by Yomif Kejelcha.
During the race, Kiplimo ran with Nicholas Kipkorir until the 15-kilometre mark, before pulling away and finishing the race alone to secure victory.
Kipkorir came second in 58:08, while Gilbert Kiprotich finished third in 58:59.
Kiplimo’s brother, Oscar Chelimo, also took part in the race and finished sixth in 1:00:12 in his debut half marathon.
