Former Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, has broken her silence following her defeat in the hotly contested race for the second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
In a message of appreciation to supporters, Kadaga expressed gratitude to Ugandans and the NRM fraternity for what she described as “unwavering support and encouragement” throughout the campaign.
“To the delegates at the National Conference who endured the stormy days and sleepless nights in the course of this journey, I salute you with utmost respect. Your resilience and commitment will forever remain an inspiration,” Kadaga said.
She singled out those who braved threats and intimidation to openly campaign for her.
“Special thanks go to the gallant men and women who raised my posters amidst numerous challenges and threats. In you, I saw the true spirit of courage, sacrifice and loyalty,” she added.
Kadaga, who has served in the NRM since its inception, stressed that despite the electoral setback, her loyalty to the party and the people of Uganda remains unshaken.
“Above all, I thank the people of Uganda for continuously entrusting me with the privilege to serve you. I re-affirm my commitment to continue striving for our values and aspirations,” she said.
The Kamuli District Woman MP also congratulated all those who emerged victorious in the party’s just-concluded elections, pledging to continue contributing to the NRM’s growth.
Her message comes just days after she lost the race to Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, who polled an overwhelming 11,680 votes against Kadaga’s 902 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
