Police have arrested 22 suspects in an intelligence-led operation conducted in Katoogo and Kinawataka on the night of September 2, 2025.
The operation, carried out between 10 p.m. and midnight, targeted a wave of phone snatchers and robbers who had reportedly taken advantage of prolonged load shedding and darkness in the area due to a faulty transformer.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, the suspects were found in possession of breaking implements and knives and are currently being held at Kinawataka Police Station pending screening.
“This operation aimed to address the rising concerns of phone snatchers and robbers in the area, who have been taking advantage of prolonged load shading and darkness due to a faulty transformer,” Onyango said.
He further noted that the police will sustain such operations in the area as part of wider efforts to combat criminality and ensure public safety.
“The police intend to continue such operations to combat criminality in the area and maintain security,” he added.
