Police in Kamuli District are investigating a suspected murder incident in which two police officers were killed on the night of February 5, 2026, along the Busota–Kisozo Road in Naibowa Village.
According to a statement issued by the Busoga North Police Spokesperson, Samson Lubega, the deceased officers have been identified as Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Nambafu Peter, the Officer in Charge of Kiyunga Police Post under Kamuli Central Police Station, and Election Special Polling Constable (ESPC) Bakali Mwanje, aged approximately 26 years, who was also attached to Kiyunga Police Post.
Preliminary findings indicate that at around 9:00 p.m., the two officers left Kiyunga Police Post riding on a motorcycle, heading to the residence of AIP Nambafu Peter. However, at approximately 11:00 p.m., police received information that the bodies of the two officers had been discovered along the Busota–Kisozo Road.
Police officers responded promptly to the scene, where relevant exhibits were recovered and secured to aid ongoing investigations. Initial observations suggest that both officers sustained fatal head injuries, which are believed to be consistent with a criminal attack.
Police strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a cowardly act, and extended heartfelt condolences to the families, relatives, colleagues, and friends of the fallen officers.
“We recognize the pain and loss caused by this tragic incident and assure the public that all necessary efforts are being undertaken to ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” Lubega said.
Police have appealed to members of the public who may have information that could assist with the investigations to report to the nearest police station or contact security authorities through official channels. Authorities have assured the public that all information provided will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
The Uganda Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and called upon the public to remain calm and support ongoing investigations. Further updates will be communicated as inquiries progress.
