Police in Kasese have arrested a woman suspected of stealing an 11-month-old baby girl.
The infant, identified as the daughter of Mr. David Masereka , a resident of Base Camp Lower Cell in Central Division, Kasese Municipality, was reportedly taken under unclear circumstances.
The incident occurred on September, 27, 2025 at around 1:30 pm, when the suspect, identified as Masiika Robinah, a 30-year-old resident of Base Camp Lower, allegedly took the infant from her caretaker without the parents’ consent.
According to police, the housemaid resisted handing over the child, but the suspect insisted, claiming she would return the baby later.
Concerned, the caretaker reported the matter to the Local Council 1 Chairperson, who immediately alerted Kasese Central Police Station.
A joint search by police officers and community members was conducted, leading to the successful rescue of the infant and the arrest of the suspect.
Confirming the incident, SP Nelson Tumushime, the Rwenzori East Regional Police Spokesperson, said. “We have arrested a female suspect, Robinah Masiika , in connection with the theft of an 11-month-old baby. The child was recovered safely, and investigations are ongoing to establish the motive behind this act.”
Tumushime further issued a caution to parents and guardians, urging them to remain alert and proactive in safeguarding their children.
“Parents should always be vigilant and keep a close eye on minors. In case of such incidents, notify the police or relevant authorities immediately. We also advise parents to keep updated photos of their children for easy identification in emergencies,” he emphasized.
Police confirmed that the suspect remains in custody at Kasese CPS as investigations continue.
