Uganda has registered another impressive performance on the global academic stage after King’s College Budo student Nsibirwa Sira won a bronze medal at the 2026 International Mathematics Competition (IMC) held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Nsibirwa emerged among the top performers in the highly competitive contest that brought together more than 1,000 talented student mathematicians from 46 countries.

Another student from King’s College Budo, Talindeka Kiguba Jethro, also delivered a notable performance, earning a Merit Award at the international competition.

The Ugandan team comprised 13 students selected from King’s College Budo, Gayaza High School, Uganda Martyrs Secondary School Namugongo, Ndejje Senior Secondary School, and St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK).

The students qualified to represent Uganda after excelling in national competitions, including the Uganda Maths Contest and the Uganda National Science Olympiad, organized by the Uganda Mathematical Society and the Science Olympiad Foundation Uganda respectively.

The International Mathematics Competition provides a platform for some of the world’s brightest young mathematicians to compete in analytical reasoning, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Nsibirwa’s achievement adds to King’s College Budo’s growing list of international academic successes this year. Recently, the school’s Senior Five student Ian Karlton Muyimba won a bronze medal at the 2026 International Public Speaking Competition in London, becoming the first African contestant to finish among the top three after competing against participants from 45 countries and regions.

The two achievements underscore King’s College Budo’s growing reputation for excellence in STEM education, communication, and co-curricular activities, while highlighting Uganda’s rising competitiveness in international academic competitions.
