A weekend enforcement operation by the Ministry of Works and Transport has led to the arrest of a man accused of stealing road signage along the Tororo–Busia highway.
The suspect, identified as Ronald Odong, was apprehended on Saturday and is currently being held at Busia Police Station, where a case of theft and vandalism has been formally opened against him.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, Odong’s arrest is part of a broader nationwide crackdown on vandals targeting critical road infrastructure.
The stolen signage is vital for guiding road users and ensuring safety along major transport corridors.
Officials warn that continued theft and destruction of road assets compromise road safety and put both motorists and pedestrians at risk.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national road infrastructure and warned that more operations are underway to track and arrest individuals engaged in similar acts across the country.
“An operation is ongoing countrywide targeting vandals, a move to protect national road infrastructure from vandalism.
