A man has been arrested over allegations of fraud after reportedly receiving Shs70 million to supply cattle but allegedly failing to deliver the animals or refund the money.
The suspect, identified as Godfrey Karingiri, was arrested by the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU) in coordination with Kira Police following a complaint filed by Ismail Ustun, a Turkish national, and Patrick Kavuma, directors of Alif Foundation, a non-governmental organisation.
According to SHIPU, the complainants allege that Karingiri received a Shs70 million deposit in December 2025 to supply cattle but neither fulfilled the agreement nor refunded the money despite repeated demands.
“The complaint alleges suspected fraud and obtaining money by false pretences after Godfrey Karingiri allegedly received a Shs70 million deposit in December 2025 to supply cattle but neither delivered the cows nor refunded the money despite several demands,” SHIPU said in a statement.
The suspect is currently in custody at Kira Police.
“The suspect has since been transported to Kira Police for further management and investigation,” SHIPU added.
The State House Investors Protection Unit said it remains committed to safeguarding investors and ensuring complaints involving alleged fraud are thoroughly investigated.
“Under the guidance of Col. Edith Nakalema, SHIPU remains committed to protecting investors by coordinating with relevant agencies to address investor complaints, promote accountability, and safeguard Uganda’s investment climate,” the unit said.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
