The Catholic Church in Uganda on Saturday witnessed a spiritual milestone as Masaka Diocese ordained 10 new priests and 19 deacons in a solemn and colorful ceremony held at Kitovu Cathedral.
The Holy Mass, presided over by the Bishop of Masaka Diocese, Rt. Rev. Serverus Jjumba, drew hundreds of faithful, including religious leaders, political figures, and government officials who gathered to celebrate the expansion of the Church’s ministry.
In his homily, Bishop Jjumba reminded the ordinands of their sacred responsibility as servants of peace and unity in society.
“You are disciples of peace,” he declared. “As ministers of the Gospel, your mission is to heal, not divide; to unify, not scatter.”
Addressing the broader national context ahead of the 2026 general elections, the Bishop urged political leaders to commit to peaceful campaigns and to reject any form of violence or divisive rhetoric.
He emphasized the role of both religious and civic leaders in safeguarding the moral compass of the nation.
From the Lord’s vineyard, 10 deacons were elevated to the order of priesthood, while 19 seminarians were ordained as deacons, marking a major milestone in their spiritual journey.
Newly Ordained Priests include; Rev. Fr. Taddeo Kalanzi (Kalungu Parish), Rev. Fr. Joseph Kazinda (Bethlehem Parish), Rev. Fr. Andrew Mayanja and Rev. Fr. Vianney Mbuubi (Narozari Parish), Rev. Fr. Martin Naluswa (Bisanje Parish), Rev. Fr. Richard Nyago (Kyanukuzi Parish), Rev. Fr. Bonaventure Ntegeka (Matale Parish), Rev. Fr. Noah Ssaazi (Kitaasa Parish), Rev. Fr. Gyaviira Matovu Charles (Camillian Missionary – Bukoto Parish), and Rev. Fr. Matthias Mulumba Tiigo (Camillian Missionary – Kinoni Parish).
The 19 deacons include; Antanoli Kiriggwajjo Bangi (Kijjukizo Parish), Raymond Batte (Kitovu Parish), Matthias Kakeeto (Bukoto Parish), Jude Katongole (Busheka Centre), Anthony Kibirige (Kkindu), Gerald Kimuli (Ssembabule), Gyaviira Matovu (Bbuuliro Centre), Ronald Mulindwa (Matovu Nkoni), Isaac Musoke (Lukaya), Alexander Muzingu (Narozari), Bro. Nicholas Ochieng and Sipliano Turyahebwa (Kiteredde), Kizito Nyanja (Lwaggulwe), Aiden Tonny Walusansa (Nkoni), Micheal Ssettuba (Kaliiro), Bro. Lawrence Kasozi (Blessed Sacrament – Ssaaza Parish), Bro. Gidio Bwambale (Blessed Sacrament – Kasese Diocese), and Bro. Kizito Ronald Kimuli (Cistercian Monk Monastery – Nansana Parish, Kampala Archdiocese).
The ordination ceremony was marked by prayer, song, and jubilation as the newly ordained were welcomed into higher service within the Church.
Families, clergy, and lay faithful offered their blessings and support as the Church continues its mission of evangelization and service to humanity.
