The Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a temporary halt of internet-based services at the Mbarara Regional Immigration Office following a fibre cut that disrupted connectivity.
In a public notice issued on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Ministry said the disruption has affected key services including passport processing, visa services and the personalization of resident facilities such as work permits and student passes.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Simon Mundeyi, the breakdown has made it impossible for staff to conduct online-based procedures such as applicant interviews and document personalization.
“Due to a fibre cut, the Mbarara Regional Office is currently experiencing a temporary disruption of internet and internet-based services. This has affected passport and visa-related services as well as the personalization of work permits, student passes and other resident facilities,” Mundeyi said.
He added that applicants who were scheduled for passport personalization and interviews on Tuesday will not lose their appointments.
“All applicants who were scheduled for today will be attended to tomorrow, February 11, 2026, once services are restored,” Mundeyi noted.
The Ministry says it is working with relevant service providers to restore the internet connection and resume normal operations as soon as possible.
Mundeyi also appealed to the public for patience.
“We regret the inconvenience this disruption may cause and we ask the public to remain patient as we work to restore services,” he said.
Normal operations are expected to resume once the fibre connection is fixed.
