President Museveni has mourned the death of Gen. Moses Ali, describing him as a dedicated soldier, political leader, and exemplary modern farmer who served Uganda for many years.
Gen. Ali passed away at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the age of 87.
In a statement shared on his official X account, President Museveni expressed sorrow over the death of the veteran leader, describing him as a brother and long-serving public servant.
“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of our brother Gen. Moses Ali. He died today at Nakasero Hospital, at 1600 hours,” President Museveni said.
The President paid tribute to Gen. Ali’s decades of service to the country, noting his contributions both in the military and political spheres.
“Gen. Moses Ali has provided service to his country for a long time, as a soldier and a political leader,” Museveni said.
Beyond his public service, President Museveni highlighted Gen. Ali’s role in promoting modern agriculture, particularly in the West Nile sub-region, where he was known for championing commercial farming.
“In the West Nile region, he provided the good example of being a big modern farmer. We shall miss greatly his contribution,” the President said.
Museveni concluded his message by praying for the departed leader’s soul to rest in eternal peace.
“May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace,” he said.
Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali served Uganda in various capacities, including as a military officer, Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County, Cabinet minister, and Second Deputy Prime Minister. He was widely recognised for his role in national politics and his contribution to development in the West Nile region.
