President Museveni has said he will not tolerate corruption and theft of government drugs that he said are stagnating service delivery.
Speaking during his first rally for the 2026 election campaigns at Bukalasa Agricultural College playgrounds in Wobulenzi Town Council, Luweero District, Museveni said his focus is now turning towards fighting corruption and theft of drugs from government health facilities.
“In this term we are going to get tough on people who steal money because that is the money that will create wealth jobs and then support development. We are also going to be tough on theft of drugs in government facilities,” he said.
Museveni wondered how the immunization programs have been successful around the country but provision of healthcare has stagnated, a situation he attributed to theft of government drugs.
“Immunization is moving well and its why we don’t have polio anymore. The problem is with treatment. Health centres are here in Uganda. Why cant you check them? If you elect good members of parliament, good LC5s and LC3s, they can easily monitor these health centres.”
Museveni told Luweero that while he can help fight corruption by responding to reports, the people on the ground can easily monitor and avert these vices.
The president asked the people of Greater Luweero to vote for NRM to protect the gains whose genesis they are part of , having supported the bush war that brought the current government to power.
“I want to thank you on behalf of your parents and grandparents who fought along with us. Please support NRM so we can continue with this work. You need to support NRM because the economy is bigger and now ready to grow bigger and the country will soon become modern,” Museveni urged.
