Only 1.5 million out of more than 7 million newly printed National Identity cards have so far been collected by Ugandans, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has reported.
According to NIRA, offices are open in all districts across the country to facilitate the collection process. The authority urged applicants to visit their respective district offices to pick up their cards.
“While we continue printing and dispatching National IDs, we encourage applicants to visit their respective district offices to collect their cards,” NIRA said in a statement.
The agency also noted improvements to its feedback platforms, which are designed to provide applicants with accurate information regarding application status, card readiness, and designated pickup locations.
Applicants can check the status of their National IDs by sharing their application ID via NIRA’s WhatsApp number, 0766 501071, or by calling the toll-free line, 0800 211 700.
The nationwide mass enrollment and renewal exercise for National Identity cards began on May 28, 2025. In October last year, NIRA started issuing renewed National IDs to applicants.
