President Museveni has assured Ugandans that the country will remain peaceful, emphasizing that the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government possesses the necessary infrastructure to prevent any attempts to create chaos.
Speaking during the end-of-year national prayers at State House, Entebbe, President Museveni warned against foreign-backed groups seeking to incite violence, stressing that such efforts will not succeed in Uganda.
“These groups are not part of the wealth creators; they only talk of violence. You cannot start conflicts in your kitchen. Even if there are issues, fight within your compound,” he cautioned.
The President urged Ugandans to reject sectarianism and embrace patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and socio-economic transformation, describing these principles as the foundation for the country’s continued growth. He highlighted the role of the Inter-Religious Council in promoting unity and called for a focus on wealth creation and economic development.
“We have food, industrial products we used to import are now made locally, and the economy is strong. Corruption undermines service delivery, but with our elected leaders from LC1 to LC5 and Members of Parliament, we safeguard public resources,” Museveni noted.
On economic progress, the President expressed optimism, projecting a 7 percent growth for the year and promising double-digit growth once oil production begins. He reaffirmed the NRM’s commitment to values of patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and socio-economic transformation.
First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, led prayers thanking God for peace, freedom of worship, Uganda’s natural resources, and the men and women in uniform who protect the country.
Religious leaders, including Archbishop Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda, Apostle Joseph Serwadda of the Born-Again faith, and Archbishop Samuel Kajoba of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, also prayed for integrity, unity, and guidance for leaders during upcoming elections.
The event was attended by Vice President Jessica Alupo, ministers, Members of Parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, and other dignitaries.
