The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) has endorsed Anita Among for Speaker of the 12th Parliament and Thomas Tayebwa for Deputy Speaker, effectively confirming that the duo will retain their leadership positions in the new House.
Among assumed the role of Speaker following the death of Jacob Oulanyah, who passed away months after taking office, having succeeded Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga.
Thomas Tayebwa has served as Deputy Speaker alongside Among since then, and both have now secured the backing of their party to continue leading Parliament in its next term.
With the NRM’s endorsement, Among and Tayebwa are set to continue steering parliamentary business, ensuring continuity and stability in legislative affairs.
The party’s decision comes ahead of the swearing-in of the 12th Parliament, scheduled for May, 13 to 15 2026. The new House will still formally vote to confirm the Speaker and Deputy Speaker positions.
