National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Leku James Pilli has been declared the duly elected Member of Parliament for Adjumani West following Thursday’s parliamentary by-election.
Leku secured 12,423 votes to defeat his independent challenger, Gasper Draga, who garnered 2,559 votes.
The results were announced by Adjumani District Returning Officer Eunice Christine Akao after the conclusion of the tallying process.
A total of 15,216 ballot papers were counted. Of these, 14,982 were declared valid, while 234 were rejected as invalid. Another 19 ballot papers were recorded as spoilt.
The by-election was characterised by low voter turnout, with only a fraction of the registered electorate turning up to cast their ballots.
Leku’s victory means the NRM retains the Adjumani West parliamentary seat following the by-election.
