Police in Kasangati have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnap and murder of a two-year-old girl after a ransom demand of Shs10 million.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the victim, identified as Kyomuhando Dartiva Rosaries, went missing on October 27, 2026, while reportedly playing with other children in her neighbourhood.
The child’s mother, Atukwatse Lillian, reported her disappearance to police.
“On the morning of October 28, a note demanding Shs10 million was discovered at the gate of the mother’s home,” Owoyesigyire said.
According to Owoyesigyire, investigations led to the arrest of Muhumuza Joshua, a pedicurist who was known to the victim and her mother and had previously worked for the mother.
Muhumuza reportedly confessed to the crime and led investigators to a maize plantation in Kyetume, Gayaza, where the child’s body was recovered.
He also reportedly implicated a second suspect, identified as Amusuguti Florence, who was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.
Owoyesigyire said a mobile phone was recovered from the suspect, with a SIM card allegedly used to demand the ransom.
Preliminary investigations established that Muhumuza was familiar with the victim’s family, having previously worked for the child’s mother as a pedicurist.
His residence was reportedly separated from the family’s home by a perimeter wall, placing him within the immediate neighbourhood of the victim.
The child’s body was taken to Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
“Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided in due course,” Owoyesigyire said.
