Police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Afrigo Band co-foundeer and musician Moses Matovu, who was killed in the early hours of Thursday in Kibuli, Kampala.
The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Nsamba Vicent, who was arrested in Nansana, Wakiso District, following investigations into the circumstances surrounding Matovu’s death.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed the arrest, saying Nsamba was apprehended in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, in Nansana.
“The prime suspect in connection with the murder of Afrigo Band musician Moses Matovu has been apprehended. The suspect has been identified as Nsamba Vicent, 41, following investigations. Nsamba was arrested in Ochange Ward, Yesu Amala, Nansana, Wakiso District,” Kawala said.
Matovu was reportedly violently beaten in an incident that police say was linked to a love affair. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital by a boda boda rider but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police have also arrested Rose Tumusiime, who is reportedly said to have been in a relationship with both the deceased and the prime suspect, as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death.
The development comes after initial reports indicated that Matovu had been attacked by a gang while on his way to the mosque. Police later said investigations were pointing to a different set of circumstances surrounding his death.
Police said investigations are still ongoing to establish the motive behind the killing and the exact circumstances that led to Matovu’s death.
“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death are still ongoing,” Kawala said.
