Police have said they have arrested one of their own who was captured on video slapping a fuel attendant at a Shell fuel station in Kyanja.
Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said on Tuesday evening that the police officer had been arrested but didn’t divulge more details.
“I hereby confirm he has been arrested.”
The incident
In the incident which has drawn condemnation, the police officer who is dressed in civilian clothes is seen charging at the female cashier.
“I am parking; have you ever driven such a car? She’s there disturbing me over Shs 30,000. Do you think I can run away with Shs 100,000? I can slap you even with these cameras here and tomorrow we go to court,” the police officer is heard saying in the video before launching a barrage of slaps towards the attendant.
This website has since learnt that the officer is Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clive Nsiima is attached to the Oil and Gas Protection Unit that falls under the Counter Terrorism Directorate.
In a comment on X(formerly Twitter), the Police Criminal Investigations Director, AIGP Tom Magambo promised to handle the matter swiftly.
