Police in Kampala Metropolitan East and North are investigating circumstances surrounding the disappearance of a juvenile from Wandegeya and the discovery of a decomposing body in Namulaba Village, with detectives now exploring a possible connection between the two incidents.
The missing girl, Aneza Merisa, was reported at Wandegeya Police Station on November 2025, 6, by her mother, Kamuganga Sarah.
Four days later, on 10th November, residents of Musaale Swamp in Kyampisi Subcounty discovered the body of a female, already in an advanced state of decomposition.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the timing and circumstances of both incidents have prompted detectives to examine the possibility that the two cases could be related.
Police is investigating two incidents, the missing juvenile reported at Wandegeya and the decomposing body recovered in Musaale Swamp.
He confirmed that the body found in Namulaba Village was dressed in a navy-blue student skirt labelled “Nanyonga VII,” a detail suggesting the victim may have been a student.
However, police have not yet identified the specific school associated with the uniform.
“We are engaging nearby institutions to establish whether they have any missing learners. At this stage, we have not confirmed the identity of the deceased,” he said.
Because of its condition, the body was buried by mortuary staff in Kayunga District.
When the family of the missing girl learned about the recovery, they feared it might be their daughter, though they were never given an opportunity to view the remains.
Owoyesigyire revealed that police have since moved to secure a court order to allow exhumation of the buried body for forensic examination.
“As part of the ongoing investigations, we have applied for a court order to guide the exhumation. Once this is granted, samples will be extracted for DNA analysis to determine whether the remains are those of the missing juvenile, Aneza Merisa,” he explained.
He appealed for calm and urged the public to avoid speculation until scientific results are obtained.
“We appeal to the general public to remain calm as investigations have not yet established any link between the missing child and the body recovered in Nagalama. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police continue to follow leads in both cases as they await the court order and subsequent DNA findings.
