Police in Oyam District have recovered around forty motorcycle number plates suspected to be from stolen motorcycles following an intelligence-led operation on 25th November 2025.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, Northern Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, said the operation targeted a criminal group altering and dismantling number plates.
“Acting on credible intelligence, the Oyam Police raided Ajali Opoo Village, Adel Parish, Minakulu Sub-county,” he said.
The raid was conducted at the residence of Calvine Ayen and nearby areas, in the presence of the LC1 Chairperson and local residents. Okema confirmed the recovery of buried number plates, tools commonly used to modify motorcycles, and three bundles of dried opium.
“A thorough search was conducted, which resulted in the recovery of approximately forty motorcycle number plates buried in a banana plantation,” he said.
No arrests have yet been made, but police are pursuing the suspects, some of whom are known to authorities. Okema called on the community to assist security forces.
“We urge community members to work closely with security forces to ensure that these criminals are captured and brought to justice,” he added.
Authorities say the operation is part of ongoing efforts to fight organized crime in the district, particularly motorcycle theft and related activities.
