Police in Kyegegwa District have arrested a woman who operates a butcher stall, accused of stealing and slaughtering a goat belonging to a resident of Kasambya Village in Kyegegwa Town Council.
The suspect, identified as Teopista Bakebelamu, was tracked down by a police sniffer dog.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of April 15, 2026.
“It is alleged that the suspect broke into the home of the victim, stole one of his goats, and slaughtered it just about 10 metres from the residence,” police said.
Police responded promptly after receiving the report and deployed investigators along with a K9 unit to the scene.
“Upon receiving the report, Kyegegwa Police responded by deploying a team of investigators and its K9 unit. The team proceeded to the scene of crime, which was found well preserved,” police added.
A police sniffer dog, Bruno, played a key role in tracking down the suspect.
“Police sniffer dog Bruno picked up a human scent and tracked it for approximately one kilometre, leading officers directly to the residence of the suspect, Bakebelamu Teopista, who also operates a butcher stall,” police stated.
The suspect was arrested, and key evidence recovered.
“The suspect was subsequently arrested, and the skin of the stolen goat, identified by the complainant, was recovered as evidence,” police confirmed.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
