Police in Busoga North Region have made a major breakthrough in curbing crime, arresting eight prime suspects linked to a series of robberies and murders that have terrorized residents for a long time.

The suspects, identified as Namubona Aziz (31), Wambi Fred (40), Mugaya Grace (49), Ayazika Godfrey (52), Basalirwa Stephen (39), Wamubiligwe Henry (30), Takuwa Zainabu (42), and Kwagala Suzan (43), were apprehended following intelligence-led operations across the region.

According to authorities, the arrests were part of an ongoing effort to dismantle organized criminal gangs responsible for aggravated robberies and homicides.

“The arrests followed a series of aggravated robberies and murders in which the suspects took part,” said police on X.

During the operation, security personnel recovered two firearms and 14 rounds of ammunition in Bugweri District, a significant breakthrough in the fight against illegal possession of weapons.

Additionally, a silver motor vehicle, registration number UAZ 656D, believed to have been used in criminal activities, was impounded.

Authorities have since transferred the suspects and the recovered exhibits to Busoga North Regional Police Headquarters for further investigations.

“All the suspects plus the recovered exhibits were taken to Busoga North Region for further investigations,” police wrote on X.
