Pope Leo XVI has reassigned Archbishop Luigi Bianco, the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda, to a new mission in Europe.
Archbishop Bianco, who has served in Uganda since 2019, has been appointed the Apostolic Nuncio to Slovenia and Apostolic Delegate to Kosovo.
The announcement was made by the kampala Archdiocese stating that Archbishop Bianco will now take up his new diplomatic role in the Balkan region. No immediate successor has been named to fill the vacant position of the Apostolic Nuncio to Uganda.
As the Vatican’s representative in Uganda, the Apostolic Nuncio serves as both the Pope’s ambassador to the country and a liaison to the local Catholic hierarchy.
Archbishop Bianco’s departure marks the end of a five-year tenure during which he witnessed major religious, political, and social events in Uganda.
The Catholic faithful in Uganda now await the Pope’s appointment of a new Nuncio, who will continue to foster the strong relationship between Uganda and the Holy See
