The Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) has warned about a surge in recruitment scams targeting unsuspecting Ugandans.
According to a statement released by the institution, fraudsters are calling individuals and demanding money in exchange for jobs within the service a claim the authorities have firmly denied.
UPS clarified that the official recruitment exercise for warders and wardresses has already been concluded, and successful candidates are currently undergoing training.
Any claims suggesting otherwise are false and intended to defraud the public.
“There is no money requirement for recruitment into the Uganda Prisons Service,” said Frank Baine Mayanja, Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Service Spokesperson. “It has come to our attention that some fraudsters are calling unsuspecting victims, extorting money for recruitment into UPS.”
Baine cautioned the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to these criminal schemes, adding that the Prisons Service will not be held responsible for any losses incurred by those who choose to engage with conmen.
“The public is cautioned against falling into the traps of the conmen. UPS takes no responsibility for the victims of this scam,” he stated.
Members of the public are encouraged to seek accurate information through official channels. For inquiries, UPS has provided a toll-free number (0800144144) and a mobile line (+256-772435170) to assist the public.
