The Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has said corruption within the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) has significantly declined, attributing the progress to reforms undertaken under his leadership.
On his official X account, Gen Muhoozi acknowledged the existence of corruption in the country but emphasized that the situation within the defence ministry has markedly improved.
“There is corruption in our country but I can assure all of you that in the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) it has reduced by 85% since we took command,” he posted.
The remarks come amid ongoing public discourse on accountability and transparency within government institutions, with citizens and watchdog organizations continuing to call for stronger anti-corruption measures.
He did not provide specific details on the mechanisms used to achieve the reported reduction but his statement suggests increased internal controls and oversight within the ministry.
Muhoozi was appointed CDF on March 28, 2024 by his father also the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni replacing Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi.
Upon taking the oath of office, Muhoozi Kainerugaba pledged to improve the welfare of soldiers by tackling corruption and addressing the mismanagement of resources within the military.
