Roke Telkom has extended a generous donation of essential foodstuffs and basic necessities to the Bless a Child Foundation, in a bid to support children battling cancer.
This initiative is part of the telecom company’s long-standing commitment to community outreach and improving the welfare of vulnerable groups, particularly children and their families.
For nearly a decade, Roke Telkom has partnered with the Bless a Child Foundation, providing not only food but also emotional and physical therapy to the children receiving cancer treatment.
The recent donation, which includes rice, maize flour, beans, sugar, and cooking oil, will help meet the nutritional needs of children housed in the foundation’s care homes. These homes provide a safe, supportive environment for children undergoing treatment, along with their caregivers.
During the handover ceremony, Timothy Mugenyi, Roke Telkom’s Head of Partnerships and Community Impact, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable children.
“At Roke Telkom, we are committed to supporting communities in need, especially when it comes to the well-being of children. Today, we have also contributed towards building a kitchen for the children at this home, so they can have a clean and safe space to prepare their meals. Our donation to Bless a Child Foundation is aimed at providing relief and ensuring these children receive the nourishment they need as they undergo treatment. We are proud to be able to make a difference in their lives,” Mugenyi stated.
Bless a Child Foundation has been a pillar of support for children suffering from cancer in Uganda, providing not only medical care but also shelter, nutrition, and psychosocial support.
The donation from Roke Telkom comes at a crucial time, as many families are grappling with financial strain while caring for children with long-term health conditions.
Peter Genza, Programs Manager at the Bless a Child Foundation, expressed his deep gratitude for Roke Telkom’s continued generosity.
“A cancer diagnosis is not a death sentence. Early detection and treatment can save lives. We are extremely thankful to Roke Telkom for their kindness. These food supplies will greatly support the children and families in our care during this difficult period. We appreciate this gesture and hope it inspires others to contribute to our cause,” Genza said.
The Uganda Cancer Institute records over 4,000 cancer cases annually, with 2,093 cases involving children between the ages of 0 and 14.
Efforts continue to raise awareness, improve early screening, and ensure better access to treatment services across the country.
