The She Cranes, Uganda’s national netball team, have received a major boost ahead of the Celtic Netball Cup, as NIC General Insurance unveiled a shs 7.28 billion (USD 2 million) sponsorship package to support the team and their technical officials.
The tournament is set to take place from 26-30 November 2025 at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow, Scotland.
The sponsorship, equivalent to shs 7.28 billion, was officially announced by NIC General Insurance Managing Director, Mr. Edu Elias, underscoring the company’s dedication to promoting sports excellence and enhancing Uganda’s profile on the global netball stage.
The package will cover all players and officials traveling with the team to Scotland.
The timing of the sponsorship coincides with the She Cranes’ announcement of their final squad for the competition. Uganda has steadily emerged as a formidable contender in international netball, and the Celtic Netball Cup presents an ideal stage for the team to showcase their talent, discipline, and national pride.
During the handover ceremony, Mr. Elias emphasized the broader significance of the partnership.
“Our partnership with the She Cranes is not just an investment in sport, but an investment in Uganda’s youth, talent, and international competitiveness. We are proud to stand with the team as they prepare to raise our flag in Scotland,” he said.
The sponsorship package will cover team welfare, travel arrangements, high-performance preparation, insurance, and logistical support for both players and officials.
NIC General Insurance highlighted that empowering women in sports remains a central focus of its corporate social responsibility efforts.
Uganda Netball Federation officials welcomed the announcement, noting that such partnerships are crucial to sustaining the She Cranes’ growing international reputation.
“This support from NIC General Insurance comes at the perfect time. It boosts the players’ confidence and strengthens our preparations for a tournament of this magnitude,” Aminah Mande, Federation Secretary General, said.
The team is set to depart for Scotland in the coming days, ready to compete against some of the world’s top-ranked netball teams.
“She Cranes are ready to go and proudly represent Uganda. Should any of us fall sick or encounter accidents, this support will ensure we receive the necessary medical care, especially since the hospitals we will be accessing are often very expensive. We have many officials and players traveling, so this sponsorship gives us great confidence and peace of mind. We are grateful to NIC General Insurance for standing with us,” said Racheal Nanyonga, She Cranes Captain.
NIC General Insurance reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sports development, youth empowerment, and positive community impact across Uganda.
