Absa Bank Uganda has committed Shs185 million towards the 2026 Absa Chairman’s Bell Golf Tournament, formerly known as the Captain’s Bell, as part of its continued support for Uganda’s golfing community.
The week-long tournament will tee off on Monday, July 13, 2026, and climax with the main event on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.
The sponsorship will support a tournament prize pool of Shs28 million, which will be awarded to top performers in the professional, gross amateur, and caddies’ categories.
The Absa Chairman’s Bell Golf Tournament remains one of Uganda’s most prestigious golfing events, serving as a traditional occasion to mark the transition of leadership from the outgoing Uganda Golf Club Captain to the incoming Chairman.
The 2026 edition is expected to attract 30 professional golfers, 60 gross amateurs, and more than 250 amateur players competing in different categories.
This year’s tournament will feature a new Caddies Tournament, aimed at recognising the contribution of caddies to the sport while providing them with a platform to showcase their skills and pursue professional opportunities.
Absa Bank Uganda Managing Director David Wandera said the bank’s continued investment in the tournament reflects its commitment to supporting sports development and creating opportunities within Uganda’s golf ecosystem.
“Eight years is not a small commitment, and we do not take it lightly. Our continued support of the Chairman’s Bell reflects our belief in the transformative power of sport and our dedication to investing in Uganda’s golfing ecosystem. We are proud of how far this tournament has come and excited about where it is heading,” Wandera said.
He said the introduction of the caddies’ category demonstrates the bank’s commitment to making golf more inclusive.
“Caddies are a cornerstone of the sport. It is important to us that they have a platform to compete, to be seen, and to be rewarded for their skills. This is something we hope to build on in the years ahead,” he added.
Absa’s sponsorship is aligned with its brand promise, ‘We See Your Story’, which focuses on supporting the ambitions and aspirations of Ugandans through meaningful partnerships.
Wandera said golf provides a platform where individuals can build relationships, develop talent, and pursue personal and professional growth.
“Golf attracts a community of ambitious, driven individuals and through this sponsorship, we are not only reinforcing our brand; we are building meaningful relationships and enabling conversations that matter,” he said.
Paul Nuwagaba, Chairperson of the Chairman’s Bell Club, welcomed Absa’s continued partnership, saying the sponsorship has played a key role in strengthening the tournament and promoting golf development.
“The Chairman’s Bell is more than a tournament; it is a celebration of tradition, leadership, and the enduring spirit of our club. We are proud to partner with Absa Bank Uganda, whose continued support enables us to grow the game, nurture talent, and create inclusive opportunities for all who are passionate about golf,” Nuwagaba said.
The tournament is expected to bring together professional golfers, amateurs, corporate players, and golf enthusiasts as Uganda Golf Club hosts another edition of the annual championship.
